What is Flovent Inhaler used for?

Flovent is classified as an inhaled corticosteroid (oral corticosteroid) that is used to prevent asthma attacks and reduce the symptoms of asthma. It works by reducing inflammation of the lungs which makes breathing easier. Used properly, it opens the airways and reduces strain on the lungs. IIt can not replace the use of a rescue inhaler to treat sudden symptoms as it does not work quickly enough to relieve sudden breathing problems. Other medications deal with similar symptoms so make sure you are informed about why you are taking this. Do not stop taking this or use other medications as sudden disruption can cause symptoms to return. Do not stop using flovent HFA unless approved by your doctor. If you have a friend or family member with similar symptoms do not share this medication as it may not be effective for their symptoms and may cause undue harm. Ventolin HFA does not relieve sudden symptoms of asthma.

How to use Flovent Inhaler?

Your doctor should provide a demonstration on how to use this and the product should come with a pamphlet with instructions. You should prime the inhaler before using for the first time, if you haven’t used it for several days, or if you happen to drop it. Shake prior to every use. This works best if you use this regularly, ideally around the same time every day. If you take more than one dose, wait thirty seconds before taking your second dose. If you are taking a different inhaler in addition to Flovent, wait a full minute before administering the other medicine.

Once you are done with your dose of flovent HFA be sure to rinse any remaining medication from your mouth to prevent irritation and infections in your mouth.
