Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) is used to treat Deep venous thrombosis (DVT), which is characterized by the formation of blood clots in the legs, and can be prevented and treated with Xarelto (Rivaroxaban). During pulmonary embolism (PE), these blood clots lodge in the lungs' blood vessels and cause damage.
Follow your doctor's instructions when taking this medication. A dose of this drug is usually taken once a day with the evening meal if you take it to prevent strokes and blood clots associated with irregular heartbeats.
This medication is usually taken once a day if you are taking it to prevent blood clots in other situations (such as after knee or hip replacement surgery, while in the hospital and after discharge, after Fontan procedure).
The dose of rivaroxaban is usually taken twice a day for the first 3 weeks, then once a day. Children are usually given the same dose once a day to treat blood clots.
It is recommended that you take this medication once a day if you are taking it to prevent blood clots from forming again. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. The dose should not be increased, taken more frequently, or stopped unless your doctor instructs you to do so.
